I Can Do Bad All By Myself *****
When I talked to friends about this move, they all said the same thing. “I am tired of the same Madea movie.” But this one is a little different. Yes it has the same sad story line, but let’s all get real. These things happen. You really have to be a fan of this type of movie and I am. I appreciate them, I love them.
This movie was one of the best to me. I love Taraji P. Henson. Then as an added bonus Adam Rodriguez, from CSI Miami is in it, which puts a totally different twist on it. My girl Mary J Blige was also in this movie and I think she did a really good job. Mary has really just been a stone face to me. She never really shows any emotion but in this movie she was so animated and I loved her. Taraji was so funny and real as always. Remember she was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal in Benjamin Button. Please don’t let me forget Marvin Winans as Pastor Brian and Gladys Knight as Wilma.
The movie started out with Madea waking up to someone breaking in her house. It turns out to be 16 year old Jennifer wither her two little brothers, who one is mute and the other suffers from severe asthma and diabetes the result of their mother being on crack. The mother has passed away sometime ago and the children are hungry because their grandmother, who is now raising them hasn’t been home in four days.
Madea feeds them and she and her brother Joe tease them in the Madea way and takes them to their Aunt April. When they get to Aprils house she acts like she doesn’t know them which is funny in a strange way.
April is a night club singer, I don’t think that is really Taraji singing, but it might be. She is an alcoholic who is dating a married man, Randy, who is played by Brian J. Wright. He is so grimy, I just want to punch him in the face. April lets the kids stay reluctantly, and she is only doing this until they find her mother. I know, there are so may questions like, why doesn’t she find her mother. She is just heartless. They find out that the grandmother is dead, and she dies on a bus going to work. This for some reason breaks April down and she turn to Sandino, who is played by Adam Rodriguez.
Sandino shows up looking scruffy at the church and Pastor Brian and Wilma sends him over to April’s house because it needs repairs and he needs a place to stay. She puts him in the basement and cleans up looking good. He forms a bond with the children and actually he’s the one that cares for them. He even purchases the insulin that’s need for Jennifer’s little brother.
Randy then tries to rape Jennifer and Sandino stops him. I love this part. April shows up and of course Randy lies ad says Jennifer is lying. April says she believes him and tells him to go and take a bath. Now men you really should know that an angry woman that tells you to take a bath is going to kill you. That’s what she tried to do. She told him that the same thing happened to her and it wasn’t going to happen to her niece.
He is in the tub when she brings in a radio. Sandino saves him and he leaves. Then all is well and Sandino and April have this weird argument and they get married and have a street festival.
It’s a movie, and I liked it. I like the fact that there weren’t any sex scenes. It is family friendly. I give this movie five stars.
